We’ve been lucky enough to talk with SHB Tour Manager Bill Hanson a couple of times here at the Blue and the Black. His roots go way back to the earliest days with a young Christopher House.
My sources tell me that Bill Hanson first met Christopher House at Nevin Platt Middle School in Boulder, Colorado back in the late 80’s. From all accounts it was in 8th grade English class taught by Mr. Deegan. While he never played an instrument, he encouraged Christopher with both his guitar lessons and his songwriting regimen.
They remained tight through High School, stayed in Boulder and attended the University of Colorado together. In the early days of SHB, Bill sold merch before moving into other positions with the band. He became their Tour Manager (replacing Guy Oseary) after the band’s In the World tour ended in disaster.
Much like Christopher, Bill had his bouts with drugs and alcohol including this arrest back in 2009 in Illinois. He was in the passenger seat on the that fateful night when Chris crashed his 1968 Mustang into the tree in downtown Boulder in 2005. His problems continued including an arrest back in 2009 in Illinois (pictured below). He seems to be clear headed these days.
We hope to speak with Bill about all things SHB as the Capture the Flag tour continues to wind its way across the country. Stay tuned!
